laSexta hires Interoute to broadcast the first free football match on the
Internet in Spain
It will be broadcasted live, tomorrow, 15 February, with the Sevilla playing against the Steaua de Bucharest, corresponding to the UEFA Cup
Madrid, 14 February 2007.- laSexta has taken yet another step in its wager for the best national and international football broadcasting, for the first time in Spain, a complete football match, live and free, on the Internet. The game the Sevilla and the Steaua de Bucharest will play in Bucharest tomorrow will be broadcasted simultaneously on television, in analogic and TDT, and on the Internet via the website www.lasexta.com.
The television channel has hired the on-line contents management services of the Interoute telecommunications operator to offer the broadcast on Internet, live from Rumania. The match is the return game in the first knockout round of 16 of the UEFA cup. To see the match, simply enter the web site www.lasexta.com from any computer that has access to Internet.
The network capacity of Interoute allows information to be supplied to a practically unlimited number of users connected from anywhere in the world. The operator also has an investment plan underway for over 22 million euros which will allow it to reach a capacity of 350 GB by the beginning of this year, compared with the present 150 GB or the 2.5 GB scarcely three years ago. The explanation for these investments is the growth in demand for band width, associated with development of innovator services such as on-line contents.
laSexta, that has acquired the rights to this match for all broadcasting systems, will share this experience on the Internet, with elmundo.es, the web site of the newspaper El Mundo and world leader of information in Spanish on the Internet. The Internet broadcast of a complete football match for free is a pioneer experience in our country and will be performed with a wide band resolution quality better than 300 Kbps, providing a quality image.
This is a new sports challenge of laSexta, that is included in the strategy defended by the channel since it first started, to offer the major sports competitions live and free, for analogic television and TDT. The World Cup in Germany and the World Basketball Championship in Japan marked the start of a sports program on laSexta that has gone all out for football, especially at weekends. It has the rights of the Spanish Football League for live broadcasts and also broadcasts the English FA Cup, friendly games between selections, summaries of the Copa del Rey and UEFA Cup matches, like the one that the Sevilla will play tomorrow against the Steaua of Bucharest.
This is the eighth game of the UEFA Cup to be broadcast by the channel. laSexta has offered the most important matches of the Spanish teams to dispute this competition - the Sevilla, the Osasuna and the Celta de Vigo - that have been winning rounds and are now classified for the sixteenth one in the finals.
The Sevilla is the current European Cup holder and this year counts on many options to revalidate its title. It is also competing to win the Spanish League against the FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Until now, laSexta has broadcasted seven UEFA Cup matches, reporting an average audience of almost one million viewers (813,999), with a 5.1% screen share.
Functioning
The work process for broadcasting on-line events is quite simple: the image is encoded to obtain the desired quality, the signal is sent to the Interoute platform and this serves the contents to the end users on Internet. Because the platform is directly connected to the IP Interoute network and dimensioned to support an almost unlimited number of connections, it can be assured that the contents are accessible for all potential users. The customer does not need to install anything or make investments and only pays for the use.
